The Quebec City Convention Centre (QCCC) and the Club de magie du Quebec have won a bid to host the 2021 World Championships of Magic.
The event will be held from 26 to 31 July 2021, with over 2,000 magicians and magic aficionados descending upon the city. There will be conferences and international-calibre galas as well as 150 magicians competing in a Grand Prix.
The event is estimated to bring in CAD$5m (US $3.8m) to the city, and will be held by the International Federation of Magic Societies (FISM).
The news was announced by FISM’s president Domenico Dante during the 2018 World Championships of Magic, on July 10 in Busan, South Korea.
Pierre-Michel Bouchard, CEO of QCCC, said: “What an unbelievable feat to have attracted this well-known event to our city! It took quite a bit of magic to win this international bid – the first championships on North American soil!
“We would not have been able to convince the presidents of international magic clubs to vote for Quebec City without the unwavering support and expertise of Jocelyn Guertin (pictured middle), sales manager for international markets at QCCC. Jocelyn and the team at the centre guided us through each step of the bidding and selection process.”
