Australia to launch national events mentoring programme

Industry association Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) is to partner with national tourism board Tourism Australia to launch a national mentoring programme designed to grow the leadership skills in the country’s events industry.

MEA’s CEO, Robyn Johnson says: “MEA’s Mentor Programme will be rolled out nationally in 2017. Mentoring is a very rewarding experience not only for the mentees but also for the mentors and MEA has invested in this programme to grow the event industry leaders for the future.”

Those driving the programme say its goal is to improve the industry’s overall competitiveness both at home and abroad. The programme is designed to match experienced event profs with young professionals to discuss their career and future.

Victoria state was first to launch its programme and Tourism Australia has also formalised arrangements to introduce the scheme right across the country.

Penny Lion (pictured), executive general manager for events at Tourism Australia says: “Tourism Australia recognises the need to ensure that Australia continues to foster and nurture the young event professionals of today to ensure that Australia maintains a strong reputation in delivering world-class events”.
