Thirty delegates of international partnership organisation of conference, association and event management companies, INCON, have been meeting in Gothenburg, 3-6 November, for its annual University and Leadership retreat.
The meeting was hosted by the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre with its hotel Gothia Towers, as well as convention bureau Gothenburg & Co.
High on the agenda was discussion of trends in the organisation of medical meetings. In his presentation, Martin Jensen, co-president of the International Pharmaceutical Congress Advisory Association (IPCAA) addressed issues such as compliance and the interaction between industry and medical societies, while professor Olle Larkö from Sahlgrenska University Hospital came to judge the INCON University workshops.
Inge Hanser, MD of CPO Hanser Service and co-chair of INCON, noted Gothenburg now ranked as one of the main conference cities in Scandinavia. “The INCON team enjoyed a warm welcome from our Swedish hosts and devoured the wonderful culinary specialities and magnificent landscape,” she said. “I think the unique city-centre location in close proximity to the sea and international airport will be a draw for many of our international meetings.”
Carin Kindbom, president and CEO of the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre Group, said his team was “delighted” to welcome the INCON team to the centre and Camilla Nyman, CEO of Gothenburg & Co, the Destination Marketing Organisation which includes Gothenburg Convention Bureau, added: “Gothenburg has gained an excellent reputation as a meetings city over the past 30 years. The city’s success is based on our ability to partner and collaborate with clients, hotels, restaurants, industry and the academic world. It’s been a great privilege to give INCON a taste of what Gothenburg has to offer the association organisers.”
Kindbom told CMW the INCON meeting was “a fantastic opportunity, and an international acknowledgement for both our venue and the city of Gothenburg. Between 2011 and 2014 we undertook our biggest investment ever and established our venue as Europe’s largest, fully integrated hotel, exhibition and congress facility. We have successfully increased our share of international meetings, as a part of our strategy, and see further potential. The INCON Group has a unique combination of global presence and local expertise within conference, event and association management. We look forward to taking part of their knowledge and show them everything we can provide their international clients.”
