Marriott International brings a cultural infusion to transform meetings in Malaysia

Planners looking to embed some authentic local Malaysian culture into their meetings room DNA will be interested to hear of a new launch product: ‘MY Meetings by Marriott International’.

The global hotel chain says it is re-imagining the art of doing business, by introducing a range of inspiring meeting spaces in Malaysia which include facets of authentic local culture mixed with themed meeting packages. The programme is being rolled out across 17 Marriott International hotels and resorts in Malaysia.

Although likely to appeal particularly to international groups, by way of a window into the country’s rich culture and cuisine, even local delegates may be surprised by some twists designed to evoke a nostalgic flavour.

“The ‘MY Meetings by Marriott International’ concept aims to showcase authentic, experiential options that elevates Malaysia’s colourful culture, food and heritage with a more enriching experience for business meetings in our Malaysia hotels and resorts. At the same time, international guests will find the many unique cultural facets and contrasts, making Malaysia an ideal destination for meetings,” said Sho Hwee, Marriott International area director of sales and distribution – Singapore, Malaysia and The Maldives.

Malaysia’s meetings offer ranges from Kuala Lumpur’s urban vibrancy to the lush scenery of Langkawi or Sabah.

At the Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral, the Joms Lokal meeting packages include tea time bites including Nasi Kandar, Roti Jala and Kuih Muih local sweets and group breakout sessions involving a live action Teh Tarik stall.

While the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel offers ‘Meetings Kaw-Kaw’, engages delegates with a Little India, inspired Banana Leaf Rice lunch break or vibrant night market themes with live cooking stations.

And the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur Hotel showcases the nation’s multicultural melting pot via Nyonya, Kelantanese and Melaka Portuguese. A Sky’s the Limit Meeting Dinner can bring delegates up on the roof, overlooking the KLCC tower at sunset.

The Westin Kuala Lumpur is bedecked in Batik motifs and traditional kampung decorations. Its teambuilding package, ‘Pots, Pans and Palates’ offers authentic Malaysian cuisine and culture through local market visits and cooking of local recipes.

There are many more packages, all with prices upon application.
