NEW HOTEL AND CONFERENCE CENTRE MAY MOVE TO WILLIAMSPORT

AMERICAS - A US $31.8m hotel and conference centre development in Loyalsock Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania could be realigned to include part of the project in the city of Williamsport.

Dan Klingerman, the owner of Liberty group and developer, planned to build two hotels and a conference centre at the site and, while a 113-room hotel tower will definitely be constructed in the township's Faxon area, a second motel and conference centre may now be built in the city of Williamsport.

Mayor Gabriel J. Campana backs the move to bring a conference centre to the city. He said: "I'm lobbying for downtown Williamsport. It would be a better investment, and I believe it would be advantageous for commerce."

Campana said locating the second hotel and conference centre in the city would fulfil the objective of Destination 2014, the Mayor's economic development plan for the YMCA site.

Klingerman said: "We are working with the Mayor as we believe his 2014 vision has merit."
