AMERICAS - An under-construction Cleveland Convention Centre, Ohio, has won its bid to host the CleanMed Conference and Exposition, which is estimated to attract 1,000 hospital administrators, physicians and staff and 100 exhibitors when it is held in May 2014.

The new convention centre is set to open in 2013 and its developer, MMPI Inc, is currently pursuing the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for the new complex. The US Green Building Council awards certification to buildings that achieve a high level of energy efficiency and minimise environmental impact.

Positively Cleveland, the local convention and visitors bureau, says the conference is expected to generate an economic impact of US$1m and 1,500 room nights in downtown Cleveland hotels.

The conference and expo is sponsored by Practice Greenhealth and HealthCare Without Harm, an international advocate for environmental health.

“With the new convention center and Medical Mart opening in 2013 and making significant strides forward in sustainability and environmental responsibility, we saw a perfect partnership with the city and region,” says the Director of Education, Training and Events for Practice Greenhealth, Carrie Abernathy.
