Collaboration is key to business events growth in Sarawak

The Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) has announced the launch of a new platform, BESarawak Alliance, which will launch at its upcoming TriBE 2018 show.

Sarawak is Malaysia’s largest state, and TriBE is its inaugural business events meet. It is being overseen by SCB, non-profit state agency whose role is to promote Sarawak as a destination for international meetings.

The new platform aims to further Sarawak’s economic transformation, by creating collaborative opportunities between government ministries and agencies through business events such as meetings, conventions and exhibitions.

It hopes to act as a gateway to accelerate trade and investment, furthering Sarawak’s key focus areas and multiplying global networks.

Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is minister of tourism, arts, culture, youth and sports n Sarawak, said: “Not only is business events a lucrative source of immediate economic contribution, the spillovers to other key sector areas are essential in creating a sustainable and stronger Sarawak.”

“Through a strong collaboration between other ministries and agencies, business events can be reinforced as a pivotal driver for the development of the state.”

SCB’s chief operating officer Amelia Roziman said: “As a progressive and relatively young destination, Sarawak’s achievements have been truly remarkable.

“In order for us to achieve the same unprecedented growth in the decades to come, our next big chapter would need to be rooted from a common understanding that business events is the way to go.”

TriBE 2018 will also feature a line-up of keynote speakers, an associations fireside chat, and the 9thAnak Sarawak Awards for sector partners.
