Congrex Switzerland rejoins IAPCO, as Contendam winds up

EUROPE – After a successful realignment of Congrex Switzerland in the past 12 months, following the collapse of the parent Congrex Group, the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO) has welcomed back Congrex Switzerland as a member.

Michel Neijmann, President of IAPCO, said: “We are delighted that Congrex Switzerland is joining IAPCO again. The company has 32 years of history and excellent references”.

“We are very proud to rejoin the IAPCO family and to share our knowledge and long term experiences with our colleagues. The IAPCO plays a major role in our industry and we would like to actively get involved in its future journey,” said Congrex Switzerland MD Alain Pittet.

Meanwhile, in the UK, event management agency Contendam is set to go into voluntary liquidation, less than a year after a management buyout of the old Congrex UK business.

Commercial Director Caroline Mackenzie and MD Susan Hayden, both followed MD Rob Harrison out of the door last month, leaving a small core of staff saw through the October programme of events before the doors closed.

Mackenzie and Hayden have now both joined the Zibrant agency.

Harrison had led the MBO of Congrex UK, following its parent group’s financial difficulties.

Contacted by CMW, Harrison claimed to have been unaware of any plans to liquidate Contendam. “Other than the fact that it is sad that Christian obviously felt he did not want to continue moving the company forward, there is little to say. The whole team had worked very hard in the previous 12 months to ensure that we brought the company forward from the position we inherited it and it is a real shame to see that going to waste.”
