ICC Sydney raises its glass to NSW Wine Awards and gets security accolade

International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) is lending its support to the local wine industry by being a ‘presenting partner’ of the 2019 ICC Sydney New South Wales (NSW) Wine Awards hosted at the venue on 18 October.

The partnership with the NSW Wine Association will see ICC Sydney host the awards for three years.

ICC Sydney’s Beverage Operations and Cellar Manager, William Wilson, was one of the 16 judges who conducted a three-day blind tasting of nearly 900 wines, awarding 72 gold medals, with select labels now in the running for trophies at the award ceremony.

CEO of ICC Sydney, Geoff Donaghy said: “From the very beginning, ICC Sydney has been focussed on supporting regional communities, and this is reflected in our wine collection, which features 92% NSW-sourced labels. Our work with the NSW Wine Association is just another way we are strengthening our relationship with local producers, alongside building the presence of local winemakers and brands within our upcoming 2020 wine list.”

NSW Wine President, Mark Bourne said ICC Sydney’s support and positive impact within the wine industry is setting an example for other venues to follow. “ICC Sydney has set a new benchmark for supporting the local wine industry. Even before the venue opened they committed to delivering a positive impact for NSW winemakers.”

ICC Sydney also took home the Outstanding Security Team award at the Australian Security Industry Awards 2019. The venue was a joint winner of the category alongside the iconic Sydney Opera House.

The venue has hosted a number of high profile events, speakers and visitors from Presidents and Prime Ministers to global CEOs and entertainers, which has highlighted the expertise, skills and strong culture of its security team.

CEO Geoff Donaghy said: “Welcoming more than 1.5m visitors through our doors annually requires meticulous planning and collaboration.

“To receive this national recognition by the security industry is a testament to our diligence and commitment to world class service.”
