PCMA’s CL21 opens up its omnichannel showcase via MBS Singapore’s Global Broadcast Center

PCMA’s Convening Leaders (CL21) has kicked off, 11-15 January, this year as a global omnichannel showcase of business events.  Audiences this year have the flexibility to participate how and where they choose.

While Houston, Texas, had initially been chosen to host the in-person event, the spread of the Covid pandemic, meant that PCMA moved to connect its CL21 participants in different regions/countries mainly via Marina Bay Sands Global Broadcast Center hub in Singapore.

“The collaboration is a testament to Singapore’s position as a key MICE hub as well as PCMA’s resilience to adapt and emerge stronger from the pandemic”, said Dr Edward Koh, executive director, Conventions, Meetings and Incentive Travel, Singapore Tourism Board, which has partnered to stage the event.

Keynote speaker this year is Thomas Friedman, a three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and bestselling author.

“During a time when the business events industry has been drastically affected by the pandemic, Friedman’s message will inform and inspire our audience,” said PCMA president and CEO, Sherrif Karamat. “Through our partnership with Singapore Tourism Board we are excited to showcase what an omnichannel event looks like; launching a Global Broadcast Center in Singapore as part of our biggest event showcases our commitment to the rich future of the industry.”

The CL21 broadcast will be a mix of live, simulive and rebroadcasts designed to maximise the engagement for the entire audience.

This year’s content programme is based around four learning tracks to Recovery Discovery. They are presented in the form of studios, developed from PCMA’s ongoing campaign of research, reskilling, event experimentation and education based on insights from the membership.

The studios and thought leadership main areas are: Omnichannel Events & Experiences; 7 Change Actions to Transformation; New Business Model Exploration; Rsiliency in Life & Work.

The digital event is based on the Juno platform and the Main Stages have all the featured speakers, while the visitor journey is recommended to start in the Kitchen, where networking and wellness sessions can be accessed.

Among the speaker line up is the Hon. Julia Gillard AC, former prime minister of Australia, and the first woman to take the role. She will be sharing insights of her personal leadership journey.

There will also be case studies presented by organisations that have taken the bold step to embrace AI and digitalisation, Dr. Ayesha Khanna will share practical insights and the steps organisations can take, to realise value while fending off competition. And Peter Hinssen will talk about the Never Normal period we’ve entered and the mindset, skillsets and leadership needed to build transformational strategies to face these ongoing changes.

The closing keynote will be from US Olympic Gold medalists Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird. They will also lead a discussion from their home about advocacy and change.

The CL21 programme also includes a wide range of sessions with Tech Talks and Venue & Destination Downloads.
