Rimini pips Lisbon to clinch environmental conference

The Event & Conference Division of Italian Exhibition Group has teamed up with Bologna University to win a new international conference for June 2021.

The Palacongressi di Rimini will host the 26th Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), a European scientific association that brings together some 1,200 experts, the majority European, who are active in environmental, climate and resource economics.

The conference will be held 22-25 June 2021 and the agenda will include the circular economy, low carbon transport systems, the decarbonisation of buildings, areas in which IEG and Rimini are already very active with the Ecomondo and Key Energy exhibitions. The EAERE Conference, is normally held in June and usually in a university.

The association’s 2019 European Conference was held in Manchester, in June, the 2018 edition in Gothenburg and the previous year in Athens. In 2020 it will be Berlin that hosts the event.

A decisive factor in Rimini clinching the 2021 bid was the proposed collaboration with lecturers there, Elettra Agliardi (Rimini Campus) and Anastasios Xepapadeas (University of Athens and Campus of Rimini), who represent the Faculty of Economics of the University of Bologna, a staunch promoter of the candidacy together with IEG.

The added value of the city of Rimini and its many accommodation options were also crucial points.
There are currently five international congresses currently scheduled for 2020 at the Palacongressi di Rimini, with two booked in for 2021. In addition to the EAERE Conference, the European Symposium on Poultry Nutrition is due in town in 2021.
