The SITE + MPI Global Forum, held 12 -14 January 2018 in Rome, marked the first time the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) and Meeting Professionals International (MPI) had partnered to host a global event to share industry trends, offer education and provide a collaborative environment for networking.
There were 540 registered attendees at Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria, with most (55%) coming from Europe and 34% from North America.
A quarter of delegates were planners/buyers and 68% were members of MPI, SITE or both associations, with a quarter of those first time attendees of either an MPI or SITE conference.
The conference offered 30 education sessions, included separate tracks for incentive travel and meetings management professionals.
Both industry associations were pleased enough with the outcome, it seems, to sign a declaration on future SITE and MPI co-operation and collaboration.
The MPI Foundation Rendezvous fundraiser and networking event raised more than US$19,000 at the conference.
MPI has also announced its European Meetings and Events Conference will head to The Netherlands in 2019, while SITE announced its 2019 Global Conference will be in Bangkok, Thailand.
Other news from SITE included the official announcement of Didier Scaillet’s appointment as new SITE chief excellence officer.
The Rome event also showcased the SITE Crystal Awards for incentive travel excellence, while the SITE Foundation previewed its study on the economic impact of incentive travel programmes in four European destinations.
