Philadelphia is preparing two spectacular art initiatives for the nation’s 2026 Semiquincentennial celebration, creating compelling new attractions that will enhance the city’s appeal for business events and conferences.
Opening April 2026, this dual-venue exhibition between the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts will feature over 1,000 pieces – the most expansive collection of American art ever assembled in Philadelphia.
The exhibition will showcase work by women, immigrants, Indigenous makers, self-taught artists, and academic painters, offering an inclusive view of American creativity. Philadelphia Phillies owner John S. Middleton is contributing never-before-seen pieces from his significant private collection.
“This exhibition is for everyone – no prior knowledge of art or history required,” said Middleton. “Just like baseball, art has the power to bring people together.”
Renowned muralist Meg Saligman is transforming a historic 19th-century bank in Old City into a six-story immersive art destination. The Ministry of Awe will span over 8,500 square feet with interactive exhibits, live performances, and evolving soundscapes that change through community participation.
“We’re creating a living, walkable piece of art that’s deeply rooted in Philly’s rich history,” Saligman explained.
Perfect for Business Event Attendees
These unique cultural experiences will provide exceptional networking and entertainment opportunities for business event attendees. The exhibitions offer memorable venues for corporate receptions, client entertainment, and team-building activities, while the convenient location near Philadelphia’s major hotels and convention centres makes them easily accessible during business travel.
For event planners, these attractions add significant value to Philadelphia as a business destination, offering attendees world-class cultural experiences that extend beyond the meeting room.
These projects build on Philadelphia’s existing strengths as an arts destination, including over 4,000 street murals and world-class museums along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The city’s location between New York and Washington D.C., plus direct flights from 120+ cities worldwide, makes it easily accessible for business travelers and cultural tourists alike.
As Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO Gregg Caren noted, “Art is absolutely part of who we are in Philadelphia. Visitors are going to see that on another level in 2026.”
