ASM Global Asia Pacific (APAC) venues provided staff to assist in the opening of the Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre in New Zealand. Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre’s general manager, Ross Steele, called on the APAC group for assistance in their audio-visual and technical area. This was due to industry-wide staff shortages in the lead-up to the venue’s opening. Several APAC group venues provided the convention centre with extra short-term staff, including Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC), and Brisbane Entertainment Centre (BEC). BCEC provided their audio-visual systems manager, Dion Amato, and BEC provided their technical coordinator, Graham Ironside. BCEC general manager, Kym Guesdon, noted that Amato’s experience in the technical commissioning of BCEC on Grey Street would assist the venue’s team in helping them expand upon the existing systems and processes. Harvey Lister, chairman and CEO of ASM Global APAC, said: “When one of our venues requires assistance, there is the opportunity to send experienced professionals from our other venues in the group.” “These opportunities are highly regarded by ASM Global employees and provide a different perspective from their everyday roles in their home venues, but it can also be of great benefit to their long-term career growth.” Steele commented: “In this current environment, it is an enormous help and heartening to have the backing of the global team to assist, not only with resourcing issues but to discuss the challenges that currently affect us all.” He added that the convention centre is continuing to look for permanent staff for available roles.
