Three years after opening The Appointment Group in the Asia Pacific region, managing director Shane Barr has announced the group’s acquisition of a major Sydney based events company, Axis Events, which was founded by events industry leader, Paul Christie. The acquisition has created one of Australia’s most experienced, professional and creative independent event and corporate travel management companies providing personalised global event management solutions to meet the needs of clients around the clock. Shane Barr will head up The Appointment Group Asia Pacific, and brings over 20 years’ industry experience across three continents. Leading and managing the events division will be Laura Tucker, General Manager, Global Events for Asia Pacific. “The acquisition of Axis Events represents an exciting time for all involved. The Appointment Group is thrilled to add such a successful brand and team of professionals to our business. Our General Manager Laura Tucker’s wealth of event experience spans 21 years globally, combined with our strong supplier relationships and business networks, we have now created a powerful group of travel and event specialists and look forward to further cementing our position in the Australian market,” said Barr. Sam Robson, group events director, global Events UK added: “The entire team, both at The Appointment Group and Axis Events, will remain an integral part of the expanded division and our future growth plans within the MICE market throughout Asia Pacific.” Founder of Axis Events Paul Christie said: “I couldn’t have imagined a stronger strategic partnership and future for Axis Events, our existing clients are in the best hands possible and will benefit from the wealth of contacts and expertise The Appointment Group offer, not to mention access to their phenomenal global network which will benefit clients greatly. I wanted to hand on the company I built to people I knew could take it to the next level and ensure my dedicated staff were well taken care of. The Appointment Group has ticked all the boxes and more!”
