In its 50th year, global meetings business tourism agency BESydney has clinched an ABA100 Winner for Business Innovation in The Australian Business Awards 2019.
The company’s achievements include a successful research partnership with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) which has seen development of a methodology for reporting economic and social legacies of meetings that is now being used by the industry globally.
Congratulating BESydney on the Award, NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, said: “BESydney strategically targets conferences that are aligned with Sydney and Australia’s unique industry and academic strengths, so when those events come here the impacts of the conference are more far-reaching and longstanding – both for our local Australian communities as well as the international host organisation and their membership.”
BESydney Chair, The Hon. Bruce Baird AM, added: “BESydney is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and business innovation has been the cornerstone of the organisation’s success over the decades. It has enabled them to stay ahead of the curve, delivering for their clients and the Government and industry that sustain them.”
BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith, who picked up the award, said: “The Beyond Tourism Benefits research has enjoyed a remarkable resonance amongst our international convention bureau peers and the new methodology underpinning its findings is now driving best practice across the industry.”
Ms Lewis-Smith added that the world of business events was highly competitive. “I believe our approach to partnering with government, industry and academia to articulate a business case for this sector has played a small part in that. As more governments and industries realise the breadth of the impact, they are throwing everything at winning that business.”
Now in its 14th year, The Australian Business Awards recognises high-performing organisations which implement world-class business initiatives and develop innovative products and services. The national winners are benchmarked against the top performers globally in the international chapter of the program at The World Business Awards.
