The Luxembourg government has put its money where its meetings mouth is and is looking for business events to drive the image and visibility of the Grand Duchy at the international level, while contributing to economic development of the country. The new Luxembourg CVB, Business Events Luxembourg, set up by the government and the City of Luxembourg in a 50/50 investment, was showcased at IBTM World in Barcelona this week and Francois Lafont, CEO of Business Events Luxembourg has said the bureau would play a “crucial role” in securing business events for the destination, with an emphasis on associations from its key economic and research sectors. “Our main goals are to enter the top 50 of the business events destinations worldwide and to double the number of international congresses. Its quality of being one of the three capitals of the European Union, its excellent connectivity, its location in the heart of Europe and its economic sectors will definitely secure Luxembourg on the agenda for international congress organisers,” said Lafont. Luxembourg, he said, had 170 nationalities and was a place where people meet and connect. “Connecting the right people outside Luxembourg to the right people inside the country is our mission – uniting people shaping the future,” he added. The new international team of Business Events Luxembourg, together with its six partners Chateau d’Urspelt, DMC by Sales-Lentz, European Convention Center Luxembourg, Luxembourg for Tourism GIE, Luxepo The Box and Voyages Emile Weber, are all attending IBTM World until 21 November in Barcelona on stand F80.
