Meetings Events Australia (MEA) has launched its 2020/2021 MEA Mentor Programme.
With the support of Tourism Australia, the national programme aims to bring together event professionals from across the country to “connect, share and assist in the development of skills, expertise and career progression”.
Mentees are ‘matched’ with industry representatives who provide advice and learning opportunities over the six-month programme.
The Mentor Programme is one of MEA’s offerings designed to “assist members along their career pathway as event professionals”. This year’s programme will bring an increased level of interaction, tracking and resources to participants via an online platform.
Robyn Johnson, chief executive officer of MEA said: “We are pleased to offer the Mentor Programme again to our membership as it has been a highly valued experience for both the mentees and mentors in the past. It is an experience that certainly enhances career progression and development. With the challenges our industry currently faces, the value of the programme and the support it will bring will be heightened as we nurture and develop our leaders of the future”.
Penny Lion, executive general manager of events for Tourism Australia, said: “Tourism Australia is pleased to once again partner with MEA on its Mentor Programme. Australia has a reputation as an exceptional business events destination, largely due to the people within our industry who go above and beyond to deliver remarkable events. Nurturing talent in the events sector is very important to the team at Tourism Australia. We see the MEA Mentor Programme as a platform for industry to leverage, especially during challenging times like this. Events will be instrumental to the recovery of our economy and Australian event professionals will play a key role in helping rebuild many sectors in the months and years ahead.”
Mentees must be MEA members (either corporate or individual) to participate in the programme that will run from October 2020 to March 2021.
