Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) on Sunday announced the commencement of the second phase expansion of its Al Ain Convention Centre (AACC).
AACC will increase in area by 8% resulting in an extra 14,000 sq m of space.
The construction and refurbishment is expected to take 150 days and is scheduled to open in early 2017.
The expansion will deliver new facilities for conferences, which includes new meeting halls and seminar rooms. The development will create new jobs and be managed by a team of Emirati nationals.
Covering an area of 1,000 sq m, the conference facilities will feature five meeting rooms across two floors. Two of the meeting rooms – 112 sq m and 78 sq m in area – will be located on the ground floor, while three rooms with an area of 47 sq m each will be located on the first floor. The new meeting rooms will be able to accommodate up to 600 visitors.
Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, acting group CEO of ADNEC, said: “The launch of phase II of Al Ain Convention Centre is aligned to ADNEC’s on-going strategy to upgrade and boost the efficiency of all our subsidiary entities. Through such efforts we can ensure that our world-class venues remain competitive and relevant in attracting major local and international exhibitions and events to the emirate.”
Al Ain, known locally as the ‘Garden City,’ is 90 minutes’ drive to the east of Abu Dhabi. The city, the fourth largest in the country, is the birthplace of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, first president and founding father of the United Arab Emirates and is held in high regard by the local population.
The city’s natural beauty at the foot of Jebel Hafeet, a 1200 m high mountain, makes it a unique destination for meetings. Heritage remains an important part of the city, and six historic forts can be visited, including the famous Al Jahli Fort which dates back to 1890.
Several attractions have been built in recent years making Al Ain a more enticing location for conference activities. Local facilities include a water-sports park, go-kart circuit, 18-hole golf course and driving range, and shooting range.
