The Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre has reached its eighth anniversary as of 9 September 2024. Over its lifetime, the OCEC has developed into Oman’s leading events and exhibitions hub. It hosts 250 international and local events annually, welcoming thousands of delegates from across the world.

The centre celebrated the occasion with a series of staff activities.

The OCEC has played an important role in the development of the Madinat Al Irfan area. With an airport and two high-class hotels (JW Marriot and Crowne Plaza OCEC) nearby, the venue has become a business-oriented complex.

Over the last years, the OCEC has attracted over 50,000 international delegates to Oman. This has had a significant economic impact on the region, creating thousands of jobs and driving investment across many sectors.

Moreover, local Omanis constitute 90% of employees at the OCEC, an achievement under the ‘Omanisation’ initiative.

CEO Eng. Said Al Shanfari said: “I am proud to work with a motivated and talented team, including many Omanis who are just starting out in the field. This year, the OCEC received a regional award for its latest sustainable initiative – a solar rooftop panel project that will help offset our carbon emissions and provide greater incentives for event organisers to choose our green venue. In 2023, we were also recognised as one of the best venues in the Middle East, a testament to our ambition to position OCEC at the forefront of the MICE industry.”

Upcoming high-profile events at the OCEC include the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists World Congress in October 2024, with many more planned for the year.
