Two international conferences, each hoping to attract around 2,000 participants, have been won for the Austrian capital.
The Vienna Convention Bureau (VCB) and the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) have landed the International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISUOG) World Congress (to take place September 15-22, 2017), and the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) World Congress (which will play out from July 1-7, 2018).
Each year, the ISUOG takes its World Congress to a different leading global city where it gathers up to 2,000 obstetricians, gynaecologists, sonographers, midwives, radiographers and other interested healthcare professionals from 90 countries. Last year’s edition was held in Rome. This September will mark the first time Vienna will have hosted this event.
The Vienna Convention Bureau worked closely on the city’s bid for the ISUOG World Congress with Austrian experts professor Christoph Brezinka from the University Clinic of Gynaecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine in Innsbruck and professor Dr Daniela Prayer from the Medical University of Vienna. It was a case of third time lucky for the bid.
ICOLD, meanwhile, is held every three years and will be hosted by the Austrian National Commission on Large Dams (ATCOLD) in Vienna in 2018. It was last held in Stavanger, Norway in 2015.
The congress brings together experts working at companies, universities and government authorities who are involved in the construction and operation of dams and reservoirs for renewable energy production, water supply or flood protection projects.
The congress is supplemented by a trade fair, showcasing materials, as well as control, measurement and monitoring equipment for the water and hydroelectric industries. The World Congress was last held in Vienna in 1991.
Parallel to the 26th ICOLD World Congress, the 86th ICOLD Annual Meeting and the ATCOLD Symposium Hydro Engineering will also take place at the Austria Center Vienna.
