VisitBritain/VisitEngland has appointed Paul Black as head of business events. Black, who had previously been head of business events at London & Partners, is an experienced destination sales and marketing professional having worked with leading tourism organisations and convention bureaus from all over the world. He takes on the role previously filled by Kerrin MacPhie, who left to become chief executive officer at the UK’s Meetings Industry Association (mia). Black will be responsible for leading VisitBritain/VisitEngland’s Business Events team as it focuses on gaining more international events across the UK, showcasing British destinations and expertise and helping to rebuild the sector. He will do this alongside Government and industry partners. Patricia Yates, deputy CEO, VisitBritain/VisitEngland, said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul to the role of head of business events, with his experience and knowledge of the industry and his proven track record of sales and strategic consultancy. “Following a difficult time for the business events sector, it is more crucial than ever that we are able to support UK destinations, venues and suppliers in their recovery. Through the work that Paul and his team will deliver, we are confident we can secure major international business events and continue to showcase why the UK is a leading choice for the MICE sector.” Black said: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of head of business events and looking forward to meeting as many people as possible in the sector as I review how VisitBritain/VisitEngland should focus its efforts to deliver value to the industry.”
