Record-breaking attendance, ground-breaking displays, and high-level collaboration were highlights of the 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2024, hosted in Milan recently. The Milan’s MiCo Convention Centre was the host venue for the five-day Congress at the end of October, although the whole city was transformed into a global hub for space innovation as 11,200 delegates from 120 countries were welcomed.
The event was organised by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) with the local host, the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA), and the co-hosts, the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and Leonardo, with the support of AIM Group International as PCO.
The event featured a reveal of new NASA lunar suits by Prada and Axiom Space, designed for the highly anticipated Artemis III mission – set to be the first manned lunar landing since 1972.
The Congress saw unmatched levels of engagement, with 500 exhibitors from 46 countries showcasing cutting-edge technologies across 8,500sqm, while interactive displays, live demonstrations, and immersive experiences captivated thousands attendees. A record online audience of 3,000 also tuned in worldwide.
In a historic first, the IAF Global Space Leaders’ Summit convened 60 space agency heads and leaders, marking a milestone in global policy collaboration and a strong step towards unified space governance.
The scientific agenda delivered over 200 sessions and included 4,000 speakers from 96 countries.
IAC 2024 wasn’t just about science; it was a cultural and social landmark, fostering connections between delegates from all walks of life. The Gala Dinner dazzled attendees with a space-inspired fashion show led by Raffles Milan Institute students, blending Milan’s iconic fashion scene with the future of space.
Congress also opened its doors to the public, drawing in over 3,500 visitors, including high school and university students, to witness and engage with the wonders of space.
