KL wins bid to host World Union of Wound Healing Societies Congress 2026

Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, has won its bid to host the World Union of Wound Healing Society (WUWHS) Congress 2026. The news was announced at the WUWHS General Assembly, 4 March, held in Abu Dhabi. The Malaysian Society of Wound Care Professionals (MSWCP) is aiming to bring in around 5,000 delegates with an estimated economic impact of RM108.7m (US$26m) and visitors expenditure of RM46.4m to the Malaysian economy. The proposed theme for WUWHSC 2026 will be ‘Global Paradigm Shift: Wound Management Specialty and Recognition.’ YB Dato Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri, the minister of tourism, arts and culture, said: “We acknowledge that business events are an important economic activity that can help the country’s economic recovery. More importantly, we believe that business events activities such as WUWHSC 2026, will bring profound benefits to our nation, especially to those in the wound healing profession and the patients as well.” The Malaysian bid was presented by Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud, CEO of Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and Prof Dr Harikrishna Nair, president of MSWCP, with an 11-member delegation. Daud commented: “This partnership with MSWCP is very important for Malaysia because we need to address the challenges that Malaysia is facing today, that is the ever-increasing number of diabetic populations that needs urgent care from wound specialists. “We not only presented what Malaysia could offer as a business events destination, but more importantly, our long-term strategic action plan to help Malaysia and other under-developed countries to have access to wound care, just like others in the developed nations,” added Daud.
