Sri Lanka’s grand tour in India brings MICE to the fore in Delhi event

The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau was part of Sri Lanka Tourism’s big Tourism Networking Event in India. Following the success of its showcase in Mumbai at Sofitel BKC, Sri Lanka Tourism concludes its tour in India with a spectacular event at Shangri-La Delhi on 20 February. The Tourism Networking Event was inaugurated by HE Kshenuka Senewiratne, The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in New Delhi, along with Mr. Nalin Parera, MD of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Krishantha Fernando, general manager, Sri Lanka Convention Bureau. The Sri Lanka Tourism Board has also highlighted its forthcoming 3rd MICE Expo scheduled for May 2024. There has been a rapid Increase in Indian Visitors to Sri Lanka in recent years, with numbers more than doubling from January last year to January 2024, reaching 34,399. Sri Lanka’s tourism earnings are projected to surpass $2bn for 2023. Sri Lanka is also poised to emerge as a premier MICE destination, with the 3rd MICE Expo underscoring the country’s potential to host international events and conferences. Future plans include a strong emphasis on sustainable tourism practices and the preservation of cultural heritage sites. With 95 flights linking Sri Lanka to nine Indian cities, travel between the two nations has never been more accessible. Travel times are relatively short, with flights linking Delhi and Colombo in around three hours and 35 minutes.
