Malaysia’s leading business events venue, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, (the Centre) closes 2024 on a high note with outstanding achievements and bold plans for 2025. This year, the Centre hosted over 1,600 events, welcomed 1.1m delegates, and generated an estimated RM 1bn in economic impact for Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia.
Highlights of 2024 included:
Event diversity: The Centre hosted over 100 international and regional conventions, exhibitions, and entertainment events in 2024. Key highlights include the 5th World Congress of Paediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, International Sustainable Energy Summit, AILA World Congress, World Chinese Entrepreneur Convention, and the UIA International Forum. The Centre also delivered premium off-site catering for major events like the PETRONAS Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) and PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2024.
Refurbished spaces and facilities: In 2024, the Centre modernised its facilities with state-of-the-art interiors, smart sensors, and BYOD-enabled infrastructure. A full redesign of the on-site kitchen enhanced culinary efficiency and creativity, while upgrades to audiovisual and presentation services set new benchmarks for functionality. Refurbished spaces include Meeting Room 301, Club Suites, TenOnCall, Parkview Café, and Café88.
Sustainability and community engagement: The Centre reinforced its leadership in sustainability by achieving a 100% food waste diversion rate through enhanced composting initiatives, reducing its environmental footprint. The second edition of the Sustainable September campaign further promoted community wellness and eco-conscious living, solidifying the Centre’s role as a champion of environmental responsibility.
Additionally, The Centre collaborated on the Batik Explosion campaign, an inspiring celebration of cultural heritage and community spirit. Through the campaign, the Centre brought people together to contribute meaningful gifts for underprivileged children, fostering a sense of unity and compassion within a community.
John Burke, the Centre’s general manager, remarked, “2024 has been a positive year for us, marked by a busy event calendar and remarkable achievements. This is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our incredible team and the steadfast support of our partners, clients and stakeholders. These milestones reflect the resilience, dynamism and boundless potential of Malaysia’s business events industry.”
The Centre received multiple prestigious awards in 2024, including the TTG Travel Awards for Best Convention & Exhibition Centre, M&C Asia Stella Awards for Sustainable Convention Centre, and ASEAN MICE Venue Standard Awards for Best Exhibition Centre and Meeting Room, alongside achieving EarthCheck Gold Certification, Healthy Venue Certification, and re-certifying its AIPC Gold Certification, highlighting its excellence in sustainability, client service, and innovation.
Looking Ahead to 2025
In 2025, the Centre will focus on advancing environmental stewardship through initiatives to protect and enhance natural resources, expanding corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes to drive long-term societal impact, and strengthening its existing ESG efforts by targeting a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and pursuing ISO 20121 certification.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025, The Centre is set to host high-profile international conferences and exhibitions that reinforce its status as the region’s leading business events venue. As Malaysia hosts the ASEAN Summit in 2025, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre will host key events like IPTC 2025 and the World Chemistry Congress.
