Ottawa Tourism and The Hague & Partners Convention Bureau co-hosted a buyers breakfast at IMEX America to showcase their partnership on the International Statistical Institute (ISI) World Statistics Congress.
The two bureaux formalised their cooperation in 2019 and renewed their memorandum of understanding last year. They continue to collaborate on joint sales, research, and client introductions.
The breakfast marked the conclusion of a two-cycle partnership with ISI. Ottawa hosted the 64th World Statistics Congress in 2023 at the Shaw Centre, while The Hague is hosting the 65th edition from 5-9 October 2025 at World Forum The Hague.
The 63rd edition, originally planned for The Hague in 2021, was postponed due to the pandemic. Both cities adapted their plans to maintain continuity and jointly support ISI through the disruption.
An ISI spokesperson said: “Ottawa and The Hague worked with us as one team. We had early visibility on constraints, streamlined visa and accommodation support, and consistent focus on legacy and young statisticians.”
The partnership delivered aligned bids, shared venue and accommodation planning, and a strong education programme for statisticians.
Stephanie Seguin, vice-president of sales, business and major events at Ottawa Tourism, said: “When destinations share intelligence and plan together, organisers see the benefit in real time. Our joint work ensured a smooth handover between editions and a stronger scientific programme.”
Bas Schot, head of The Hague & Partners Convention Bureau, added: “This collaboration accelerates problem solving and focuses everyone on legacy. We are proud to champion women, young statisticians, and innovation in data science as part of this year’s congress.”
