A wave of infrastructure investment across Tropical North Queensland is the main pitch as Cairns takes its annual roadshow to four Australian cities.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) had 21 members travelling with the Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef Tropical Showcase, which visits Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and – for the first time – Adelaide. The tour reached 135 event planners, professional conference organisers and incentive agents.
Three projects anchor the message. The Hilton Palm Cove Cairns Resort & Spa is close to opening, the Morris Group is redeveloping Double Island, and an AUD$85 million upgrade of the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is under way.
Tara Bennett, general manager of partnerships and events at TTNQ, said: “With the Hilton Palm Cove Cairns Resort & Spa about to open, the Morris Group redeveloping Double Island, and the AUD$85 million Skyrail Rainforest Cableway upgrade underway, we have plenty of positive news to share.”
New half-day Great Barrier Reef itineraries and repurposed offsite venues also feature in the delegation’s conversations with planners.
Bennett said domestic demand was behind the timing: “We are seeing increased inquiries for domestic events including short lead business making the timing ideal to connect planners with the Tropical North Queensland suppliers who bring their event to life.”
The bureau is using the showcase to set out the support it offers planners, which spans content, site inspections and funding.
