BCD Travel reports that it is a leader in adopting American Airlines’ NDC – an updated way for airlines to sell to customers. The company says that it has maintained a high percentage of NDC bookings, and will push for more adoption of the sales model.
What does NDC mean, exactly?
What is NDC?
NDC stands for new distribution capability. It refers to when airlines sell more detailed options or packages up front – rather than just displaying basic ticket prices. For example, instead of selling just an Economy ticket, with NDC, an airline might offer the Economy ticket with extra legroom and a bag upfront (on the same booking screen). As opposed to selling those extras as add-ons later in the booking process.
For corporate clients, viewing these options up-front is particularly useful, so they can see pricing immediately and compare options. Regular passengers are more likely to be motivated by economising on price, and therefore more likely to simply choose the cheapest flight option, rather than that which offers a suite of extras.
American Airlines vice-president of global sales Neil Geurin commented on the performance of BCD: “American is pleased with BCD’s NDC development and we are looking forward to partnering with them as they continue to expand their capabilities.”
BCD’s Thane Jackson said: “Our work together reinforces our goal of making NDC content more reliable [and] scalable.
“We’re looking forward to solving further challenges and driving even higher adoption of NDC.”
