Building a hybrid success in the Philippines

CMW offers a case study of the recent 47th united architects of the Philippines national convention.

Brief

In April 2022, the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) held its 47th National Convention, gathering professionals from across the country to promote growth and showcase a diverse range of construction methods and services. As a hybrid event for the first time, it was supported by the dedicated VX Events platform and event expertise of global event management agency Pico’s Global-Link MP, the official event management partner.

Insight

Themed ‘SIBOL: Filipino architects reaching up and reaching out towards a future-ready environment’, a focus of the convention was to explore architects’ responses to the Covid-19 pandemic and the new skills and platforms that have subsequently developed. With networking being a major consideration for the event, Pico’s Global-Link MP team developed a bespoke platform to enable online visitors to easily engage in face-to-face interaction.

Solution

From utilising its dedicated VX Events virtual platform to managing onsite programme elements, Global-Link MP provided a wide range of hybrid support services to help connect visitors online with the on-the-ground event.

The online visitor experience included a specially designed ‘Plenary Hall’, the design of which echoed that of the physical event venue. Once inside, visitors could enter any of four online meeting rooms and watch the live event stream via Zoom. Other clickable event areas included the ‘CONEX Hall’, featuring a live broadcast of the CONEX building and construction expo; the Arkilympics, which showed the event’s TikTok challenge entries; plus an introduction to the event programme and speakers, messages from special guests, a SIBOL store for convention souvenirs, assessment and evaluation forms, and certificates.

At the physical venue, Global-Link MP provided lighting, LED walls, a full four-camera livestreaming set-up, and a dedicated production team to manage the three-day convention programme, including the fellowship parties held every night.

Online participants using Zoom were able to participate in forums and games, and periodically appeared on screen at the physical venue so that in-person attendees could also see them.

Results

Despite the pandemic, a considerable number of industry professionals participated in the convention. Key achievements included:

  • 3,700+ registered virtual delegates
  • 2,963 unique virtual attendees
  • 1,122 in-person delegates
  • 7,269 clicks at the Plenary Hall

Testimonial

“The essence of the 47th UAP National Convention is to connect architects countrywide, encouraging them to keep abreast of industry development and work toward a promising future. The Pico team helped us facilitate these goals by creating a bespoke virtual platform and providing comprehensive support for the programme’s in-person and virtual events. Whether online or on-site, visitors were able to access information and share insights easily and naturally. Just as importantly, the online platform enabled users to choose how they communicated and interacted with each other, opening up all kinds of networking opportunities. We look forward to working with the team again.” – Ar. Minerva Cabrera Rosel, UAP, PIEP director, The 47th United Architects of the Philippines National Convention.
