Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) donated 1,000 books to Batu Bungan Primary School in Malaysia during a morning ceremony. The donation comes after a series of book drives across Malaysia’s Sarawak state as an initiative to bridge the gap in educational resources between developed areas and rural Sarawak. The initiative, called Books Build Legacy, aims to give young children the tools and encouragement necessary to pursue learning. “The donations to SK Batu Bungan were collected from two events this year, namely the ‘Connect. Play. Donate’ industry gathering in Kuching and the Sarawak Invitational Interteam Pickleball Challenge 2024 in Miri,” said Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, who presented the books. “There is very good progress with this programme which is hopefully inspiring to other organisations looking to make a difference.” “With only a population of less than 70 pupils, these books will become an important part of their educational journey. We can expect more pupils to take up reading as a new hobby in and outside school,” said Michelle Lee, senior assistant of students’ affairs at Batu Bungan Primary School. “Teachers are always looking to enhance our pupils’ learning experiences and academic growth. We appreciate the business events community sharing their generosity with the pupils.” BESarawak invites organisations from all industries to donate to ‘Books Build Legacy’. For more information on the programme, contact BESarawak via Facebook at @BESarawak or email Serena Ong (senior executive for legacy & sustainability) at serenaong@sarawakcb.com.
