AMERICAS – The Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau in Mexico has announced a major renovation of the Cancun Center.
Located in the heart of the resort’s Hotel Zone, the centre began its operations in 2004 and has since positioned itself as the number one facility in the region for international conventions and exhibitions.
Last year saw 13,000 visitors and 12 major conferences come to the Cancun Center, generating revenues of more than US$34m, a 42% increase from the previous year.
Jesus Almaguer, CEO of the Cancun CVB, says a renovated facility will provide an additional reason for meeting planners to book conferences in Cancun.
Sanzport, the company responsible for the renovation, received an A Design Award in Milan, Italy, for the design of the new centre inspired by the natural elements of the Caribbean.
The renovation is due for completion in June 2016, although the centre will continue to host events throughout 2015. Approximately 500 events including 19 large conferences and 23,000 participants are expected to visit this year, with more than $41.7m in revenue forecast.
Renovation work began at the centre in October 2014, with interior meeting rooms and lobbies revamped over several floors.
