Caring for the community

PCMA EMEA regional director Jaimé Bennett offers some end of year thoughts to the association’s membership on its work during a testing year and highlights some key dates for the future:

It’s hard to believe we are drawing the curtain on 2021 after what can only be described as a momentous year. As we reflect on an exciting year for our industry, for PCMA and our EMEA community, I cannot quite believe that it has only been 12 months since we gathered for the first time in January 2021 at Convening Leaders to unite our community and build a pathway forward for us all to connect, share knowledge, collaborate and learn.

We had many meet ups, webinars, a global GMID event with our APAC colleagues, a 20 in their 20s hosted quiz, launched the EMEA Connect newsletter, EMEA website and completed our engagement survey to allow us to evolve and meet the ever-changing needs of our community.

In solidarity, we built a recovery plan and restarted the industry – together we made history. Over 300 business event professionals from 29 countries reunited in Lausanne at Convening EMEA this October. We were overwhelmed as we watched many of you reconnect and get back to business. For this, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and to thank our exceptional partnership with The Lausanne Montreux Congress, The Switzerland Convention and Incentive Bureau, The Swiss Tech Convention Centre, The International Olympic Committee and all other Lausanne Partners who brought the event to life.

I would also like to take this opportunity to give an enormous shout out to our EMEA 20 in their 20s Class of 2021, for their commitment, engagement, achievements, leadership and bravery in 2021. It has been an honour and privilege to work with you all and I am delighted to have you as part of our EMEA community. I cannot wait to watch you all continue. Thank you and congratulations again to Jack Owens – Failte Ireland, Dan Noyce – The IMEX Group, Felix Willert – Innovate, Stephanie Geddis – PCMA EMEA, Simona Milenkova and Mariya Georgieva of The Kenes Group.

Before we open the next chapter in our journey, I would like to share with you a sneak peek of what to expect in the coming months.
