The Barcelona International Convention Centre will host 15 medical events this year, bringing together 160,000 professionals, boosting the Catalan capital’s credentials in this specialised sector.
The CCIB, managed by Fira de Barcelona, kicked off a busy spring 2026 calendar of international medical events with the Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes 2026 (ATTD) congress in early March.
ATTD was one of three congresses this month and brought together more than 6,000 participants over four days. The CCIB schedule continued with EAHP 2026, Europe’s leading event in hospital pharmacy, and the month ends with the European Breast Cancer Conference (EBCC).
The venue will continue to welcome professionals and researchers from around the world to a dozen other international healthcare events in 2026, including the International Physiotherapy Congress (FTP) in July; the SECEC Annual Congress, dedicated to shoulder and elbow orthopaedics, in September; EACTS, the European congress on cardiothoracic surgery, in October; and, in November, events such as ENA, focused on advances in cancer research. There is also LABCLIN, dedicated to clinical laboratories; and the APS Annual Convention, centred on applied psychology.
Nearly 20% of the events held at CCIB belong to the medical sector in a year in when the venue expects to host around 80 events involving 400,000 professionals.
The medical congress calendar is evidence of CCIB’s commitment to hosting larger, higher-quality events with strong international reach. The city is already the world leader in the number of medical congresses and the top city globally in terms of delegates, according to the latest ICCA ranking.
Beyond the medical sector, CCIB will host major international events from industries, inlcuding technology. These include the Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo; the CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems; the IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP); and the European Microsoft Fabric Community Conference.
At the same time, CCIB will host the World Congress of the International Union of Architects (UIA), coinciding with Barcelona’s designation as World Capital of Architecture 2026. It will also once again host CineEurope, the leading convention for the cinema industry that brings together major Hollywood and European studios as well as professionals from across the sector.
Finally, the Auditori Fòrum CCIB will host a wide range of shows and concerts. Among other highlights, it will be one of the venues for the Primavera Sound Festival and will host Van Morrison.
