ASIA – Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas Hua Hin has joined the The Leading Hotels of the World marketing consortium. The hotel began life in 1923 as the Railway Hotel and was Thailand’s first resort hotel.

The consortium claims now to be the world’s largest luxury hospitality organisation and represents 430 hotels, resorts and spas in 80 countries.

Centara Chief Executive Officer Thirayuth Chirathivat said the railway line laid between Bangkok and Malaysia had allowed Hua Hin to become Thailand’s first beachside resort.

Hotel GM Jacques Mury said: “We completed a total renovation of the hotel at the end of last year, and everything we did was designed to respect and enhance the qualities that have made this one of the classic hotels of Asia.”

The hotel can host 300 delegates in its 336sqm Colonial Hall and host garden functions for 450 attendees.

Centara will also open the Centra Central Station Bangkok in November 2012. Centra is the group’s value brand and the hotel is located opposite Bangkok’s Hua Lampong mainline railway station and MRT subway.

Centara has 38 deluxe and first-class properties covering all the major tourist destinations in Thailand. A further 17 resorts in the Maldives, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Mauritius Indian Ocean, bring the total to 55 properties.
