Colombia wins UNWTO General Assembly bid for 2015

AMERICAS - Medellin in Colombia has won its bid against meetings destination Cambodia to host the United Nations World Tourism Organisation's 2015 General Assembly.

AMERICAS – Medellin in Colombia has won its bid against meetings destination Cambodia to host the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) 2015 General Assembly. Colombia hosted the 2007 edition of the event. The bidding host destinations each held a banquet with entertainment for UNWTO members to highlight each country’s offering. The Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos posted a video message expressing his country’s enthusiasm to host the event. Cambodia won 38 out of 98 votes from the committee with Colombia winning the majority for the 21st General Assembly hosting. “We have two good candidates, both charming,” said UNWTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai before the vote.
