AMERICAS – The President and CEO of the Jacob K Javits Convention Center, responsible for removing organised crime from the venue, has resigned after 15 years in the post.
Gerald McQueen, who has been at the New York venue since 1997, will continue continue in his position until a successor takes up the role. Heidrick & Struggles International has been hired to conduct a search for his replacement.
McQueen, a police executive and specialist in organised crime before his time at the venue, served as inspector general fighting against corrupt union practices at the centre in 1995. He was responsible for expansion as well as the current renovation of the building expected to complete by the end of 2013.
Javits board chairman Carl Loewenson Jr said: “Jerry has had a great run at the Javits Convention Center. He played a critical role in getting organised crime out of the centre, and under Jerry’s leadership, the centre has, for many years, been one of the few in the country that covers its expenses.”
