AUSTRALASIA – A 23-year-old computer salesman, Gary Tweedle, has been missing for a week in Australia’s Blue Mountains despite the local police launching one of the largest searches ever conducted in this region of New South Wales.
A 700-strong volunteer and emergency service team has been searching for the delegate who disappeared after leaving a conference at the Fairmont Resort in Leura since 16 July.
On the night he disappeared Tweedle had spent 17 minutes on his mobile trying to explain to four work colleagues that he was lost in the bushland after drinking with fellow delegates. The British-born delegate’s phone battery then apparently died. Detective Inspector Mick Bostock issued a statement to say no one had heard from him since. “He said something along the lines of he was lost in the bush and heading up a hill to a light,” Bostock said.
A police command post has been set up in the car park of the Fairmont Resort and police say they will continue searching until they reassess at the end of the week.
