Durban ICC doubles intake for its development programmes

AFRICA – Following the Durban International Convention Centre (Durban ICC) launching its two skills development programmes in 2013, the venue reports it has doubled its graduate intake this year to provide more opportunities for young people in South Africa’s tourism industry.
 
The Durban ICC Graduate Programme was introduced with a view to assist recent graduates begin their full-time working careers in an environment of mentorship and guidance.
 
Initially, eight post-graduates were taken on board in the Centre’s culinary department and now the programme has been expanded across all departments, accommodating over 20 new employees in the 2014 year.
 
Graduates positions include security assistant, food and beverage assistants, desktop publishing, AV/technical assistants, commi and demi chefs, information officers and junior engineers.
 
“The Graduate Programme is designed to nurture talent and develop the industry leaders oftomorrow,” said CEO of the Durban ICC, Julie-May Ellingson.
 
Ntombi Khuzwayo, who is currently on the programme, added: “I am very excited to be one of the graduate trainees at the Durban ICC. I have already learnt so much working on real events like the Metro FM Awards and am looking forward to gaining many more skills in the months ahead.”
