A new coalition has formed in Europe, and it’s spawning a new type of diplomatic event. After Trump was elected, he signalled interest in working with Russia in a friendly manner.

European leaders decided they needed an alliance to strengthen themselves without the support of the USA. As a result, they formed Weimar+.

The coalition is based on the original Weimar Triangle of France, Germany and Poland – with a view to add other major European powers like the United Kingdom and Italy. A number of summits have cropped up due to this new coalition. Here is a breakdown.

17 February 2025 – Paris, France

An emergency summit was convened following remarks by US Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference. European leaders –from Weimar+ nations and beyond – gathered to discuss strategic autonomy and the future of European security.

The joint statement from this meeting reiterated solidarity with Ukraine and discussed initiatives to strengthen Ukraine’s armed forces and enhance industrial capacity.
