The largest international conference in the 45-year history of the European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC) recently took place at Congress Innsbruck in Austria, with record attendance. The event, titled the 2024 European Congress of Sport and Exercise Psychology, showcased the latest developments in sports psychology. There were discussions of new research, as well as demonstrations of practical applications, all featured under the collective theme Performance under Pressure.
From 15 to 19 July, around 1,000 participants from 64 nations gathered at Congress Innsbruck. The congress attracted renowned experts, including competitive athletes, coaches and specialists in fields ranging from the military, police, e-sports and medicine. Over 95% of the attendees were international guests.
Christopher Willis, head of the sport psychology division of the Professional Association of Austrian Psychologists (BÖP), commented: “The members of the FEPSAC Managing Council, the professionals who participated in the congress, and I are all thrilled by this year’s success. We received a great deal of positive feedback. International attendees were impressed by both the technical expertise of participants and the professional setting at Congress Innsbruck, a format they had never experienced before.”
Christian Mayerhofer, managing director of Congress Messe Innsbruck (CMI), said: “We are delighted that, together with Christopher Willis, we were able to bring the FEPSAC Congress to Innsbruck.”
Mayerhofer also praised the support of local partners like the City of Innsbruck and the Innsbruck Convention Bureau. The city teamed up to give a warm welcome to international trade visitors, many of whom stayed after the congress to enjoy some of what Innsbruck has to offer.
