Grimaldi Forum’s ACT GREEN Policy produces record results

Green indicators were at an historic level in 2018 for Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum. The venue is reporting its best annual environmental results since the implementation and monitoring of its ISO 14001 standard in October 2008. Venue management attributes its record environmental results to a renewed focus on sustainable and optimised water and energy management, waste sorting and recycling and an eco-responsible purchasing policy. With a general building attendance bordering on 250,000 visitors per year, the ratio between annual water consumption, which has remained stable around 7,800sqm, and the increasing inflow of visitors has never been so low. There has also been a big decline in annual electricity consumption, which has dropped below 8 million kWh (7.69) at the venue. A special effort was made in 2018 on the air conditioning system. New seawater exchange control valves on the Grimaldi Forum’s thermo-refrigeration unit led to additional savings of 5.4% on electricity consumption. The objective of 50% of sorted and upgraded waste in 2018 was also met, up from 48.5% in 2017. Sorting remains a priority area for the Grimaldi Forum’s ISO 14001 certification and involved 150 tons of wood, 21 tons of brown cardboard, 28 tons of glass and 24 tons of paper last year.
