HONG KONG – The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) has announced a record event attendance of 5,969,789 for its fiscal year July 2010-June 2011, a surge of 25 per cent from the previous year.
HKCEC attributes the “significant jump in attendance” to an enlarged event portfolio; 1,235 events were held at the HKCEC during the period, many expanding in size.
Throughout the fiscal year 116 exhibitions were held at the HKCEC (10 of which were new) utilising an average gross exhibition area of 16,272sqm. Eighteen of them utilised a gross area of 30,000sqm or more.
Five of the new events were trade fairs and five were either public and trade shows or fully public shows. The nine organisers of these shows included four that were based overseas and six that were organising an exhibition at the HKCEC for the first time.
ART HK 2011 experienced almost 40 per cent growth in size from the previous year.
Cliff Wallace, Managing Director of HKCEC’s owning company, said: “This year’s remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, professionalism and experience of our 920 enthusiastic staff.”
