EUROPE – Researchers behind The UK Economic Impact Study led by the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Foundation have claimed a huge response to the study.

The first-ever UK research is being led by a consortium of investment partners, including Reed Travel Exhibitions, International Confex and Excel London.

MPI has 23,000 members worldwide, who represent buying power of £11.3bn.

Researchers at Leeds Metropolitan University have revealed that 3,350 responses have been received for the study. So far, there have been responses from 695 exhibitors, 548 meeting organisers and 457 venues.

“We are delighted about the level of engagement, which will enable the research team to capture the profile of the industry and evaluate the economic contribution from both the supply and demand side to the UK economy,” said Research Director, Dr Shi Na Li.

“We are certain that the results of the wide range of surveys will reveal the critical role the meetings industry plays in the UK economy.” The first findings from the study will be released at International Confex, on 20 March 2013 at Excel. The full economic impact results will be released at The Meetings Show UK in July at Olympia.

“The events industry is one of the most vibrant and successful in the UK, more importantly it is a vehicle by which so many other sectors promote themselves and engage with their own communities,” said International Confex Event Director and MPI UK and Ireland Chapter President Elect James Samuel (pictured).

“The research, particularly the profile information to be launched at International Confex this month, will demonstrate the sheer scale of the industry, firmlyestablishing our place as a key sector in the UK’s business community.” The full list of investment partners involved in the study are:
