Hyatt to simplify portfolio structure and focus away from ‘eye chart’ of brands

Hyatt is restructuring its brands. The hotel giant is consolidating its 30-plus brands into five clear portfolios. This strategic realignment aims to combat brand fatigue and create a clearer focus for customers and owners. The new structure organizes properties into Luxury, Lifestyle, Inclusive, Classics and Essentials categories.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation, which has reported a record pipeline of approximately 138,000 rooms as of year-end 2024, is undertaking a strategic brand realignment. The group’s numerous brands are being reorganised into five distinct portfolios – Luxury, Lifestyle, Inclusive, Classics and Essentials.

“Hyatt’s growth and strategic brand evolution reflect our commitment to creating long-term value for owners and driving the performance of our hotels by delivering distinctive experiences for travellers,” said Mark Hoplamazian, president CEO, Hyatt.

The move should go some way to counteracting ‘brand fatigue’. Over the years Hyatt has been expanding its 30-something brand collection both through acquisitions and the launch of its own original brands, and the company believes the new structure will help it re-align and gain a clearer focus.

The Essentials portfolio will include Hyatt’s select-service brands, such as Hyatt Place and Caption, and Hyatt Studios, while Hyatt and Hyatt Regency brands will form part of its Classics portfolio. The Luxury portfolio includes Park Hyatt properties and other top-tier properties. Hyatt’s Lifestyle portfolio was launched last year with the acquisition of Standard International. ‘Inclusive’ covers Hyatt’s all-inclusive business brands.

A conference presentation slide displaying the complete list of Hyatt brands had been described by Hoplamazian previously as an “eye chart”. Now identifying a common core customer basis is the lens through which the company will be looking, the CEO said, underlining the need to get to know customers better.
