Events agency Identity has been chosen to work with the UK Government to deliver the 26th session of the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Scotland this November. Following a competitive tender process, UK-based Identity will deliver the 12-day event at Glasgow’s SEC Centre on behalf of the UK Government. The news follows Identity’s delivery of the G7 Summit in Cornwall two weeks ago. The sustainable COP26 event, expected to be one of the largest gatherings of heads of state ever hosted in the UK, will also feature climate experts and negotiators to agree coordinated action to tackle climate change. The conference, postponed since 2020 due to Covid-19, will include the COP26 Green Zone – a platform for business and others to have their voices heard through events, exhibitions, workshops and talks that promote dialogue, awareness, education and commitments. National delegations and international organisations and other delegates will be able to showcase climate action, highlight diverse climate change issues and share knowledge. Michael Gietzen, managing director of Identity, said: “COP26 is a hugely important international event focusing on action to tackle climate change. It will attract worldwide media attention while hosting international heads of state, along with campaigners and climate experts. We are delighted to have been chosen and trusted to deliver this very high-profile event.” Janet Dodd, director of live events at Identity said: “This team will be integral in making sure that COP26 is the most sustainable one to date and achieves ISO 20121 accreditation. We are delighted that we will once again be working with the talented teams at the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office and Cabinet Office, and are looking forward to working with them to deliver an event that will really make a difference.”
