EUROPE – To an audience of international media and meetings industry stakeholders at The Meetings Show UK (10 July), the Istanbul Convention & Visitors Bureau (ICVB) highlighted its new ‘International Congress Destination Istanbul’ project, to be officially launched in September 2013.
The project is part of the Istanbul Development Agency 2012 Financial Support Program.
Designed to make Istanbul a leading destination in the field of congresses and meetings, the Tourism Development and Education Foundation, ICVB and Istanbul Chamber of Commerce started the €335,000 (US$435,000) project in October 2012. It was also a response, in part, to the fact that Istanbul first broke into the Top 10 International Congress and Convention Association city rankings in 2010.
The project involves the creation of a destination film, congress tourism website and promotional kit. Created around the needs of meeting, event planners and visitors, the destination film included highlights the city’s venues while brochures, maps, and DVDs will make up the kit.
The GM of the ICVB, Elif Balci Fisunoglu, told CMW the Istanbul stand at The Meetings Show had dealt with 50 booked appointments over the three days.
