Japan appoints 20 congress ambassadors

ASIA – Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) is to appoint 20 congress ambassadors across the country in April 2013.
 
The ambassadors, from key academic and research sectors including scientific and medical fields, will act as advocates for Japan within their respective fields, serving as liaisons to the media and lending their bidding and organisational expertise as mentors to other colleagues in Japan.
 
A spokesman for JTA says: “One of Japan’s leading strengths as a convention destination is that so many globally recognised Japanese individuals and associations have organised successful international conventions within the country.
 
“The global networks and experiences of ambassadors will motivate and stimulate other potential organisers to host meetings and events in Japan.”
 
Japan leads in Asia in terms of numbers of international associations represented in the country, there are 501 according to the Union of International Associations (UIA).  It also leads in Asia in terms of the number of international conferences held. The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) data shows the country hosted 2,533 qualifying association conferences between 2001 and 2010.
