ASIA – An international luxury hotel chain is set to open a new hotel in Mumbai.
The Jumeirah Group has signed a management agreement with an unnamed partner for the launch of the Jumeirah Mumbai hotel.
The property is slated to open by 2019 as part of a major new development in the Lower Parel district of the city.
The property will comprise 300 rooms, suites and serviced apartments, a wide range of restaurants and bars, conference, wedding, banqueting, meeting facilities and a Talise Spa.
Gerald Lawless, president and chief executive officer at the Jumeirah Group said: “We are keen to venture in the Indian market as we already have a high awareness of the Jumeirah brand in India. Due to the proximity of India to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Indian travellers have known our brand for decades. Thus, we are trying hard to debut in the Indian market as early as possible. It is a great opportunity for us to be in India and we believe that we will be welcomed with open hands.”
Sudhin Sivasubramaniam, director development – MEASA, Jumeirah Group said: “We are waiting to give more information on the project and it all depends on construction of both the properties. We are exploring opportunities for both Jumeirah in Tier I cities and for the Venue brand in Tier II and III as well.”
