International events and association management services specialist, Kenes Group, has announced it has achieved certification in the sustainable event management ISO 20121:2024 standard.

ISO 20121:2024 provides a framework for improving the sustainability of events throughout their entire lifecycle, from initial planning to post-event activities. It is the latest framework developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation – the ISO for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Kenes Group, which specialises in high-quality medical, professional and scientific congresses, says it has integrated the principles of this standard into every aspect of its operations, as proposed earlier this year in its own sustainability roadmap 2024.

The company’s Event Sustainability Management System (ESMS) aligns with the ISO, and encompasses all global activities related to conference planning and delivery across its global offices. It includes waste reduction strategies, energy-efficient solutions, sustainable procurement, and enhanced communication with stakeholders to ensure transparent sustainability practices.

Kenes Group CEO Ori Lahav said the certification, “reflected our understanding that the events industry can be a powerful force for positive environmental and social change. At Kenes Group, we are determined to lead by example, creating innovative solutions that reduce the ecological footprint of our events while supporting inclusivity and local communities.”

Kenes sustainability officer Elena Fis added that it was crucial for the group to invite its stakeholders and partners to join them in the sustainable journey, “aligning with our vision to push the boundaries of sustainability in the events industry. Together, we can set new benchmarks and ensure a lasting, positive impact.”
